What was your original reason for joining U Fit?
I was overweight, unfit, and eating mostly beige food. I’d get out of breath easily — I remember climbing a hill in Barcelona with my mum and she sprinted ahead while I was struggling. It was so embarrassing. I didn’t really eat protein or veg. I was working through lunches, burnt out, and anxious — I had panic attacks every couple of months. I didn’t set goals. I just went from one day to the next, trying to survive.
I actually saw a photo of myself that really shocked me and I realised how unhealthy I had become. I felt like I needed a push to make me do something that would make me feel confident again.
How did you first get started?
Lockdown was the turning point. I was furloughed, not allowed to work — it forced me to stop. I started walking, cooking, listening to podcasts, and for the first time, focused on what I wanted. That’s when I spoke with Sam at U Fit. I didn’t join straight away, but I knew I needed to. Six months later, I signed up for the Drop 2 Sizes Challenge. I didn’t think it was possible — I thought maybe I’d lose a couple of pounds, but definitely not two dress sizes.
I'd always wanted to join but it was I think the cost element that had put me off before which is why I joined the challenge to get a feel for it and then I realised that it's 100% worth it. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to fit this into my daily schedule in terms of the amount of steps and then the food part of it, the nutrition part of it. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to maintain it in my daily schedule.
