Isabel knew she was the size she wanted to be, but didn't think she could have the body she really wanted, until she began to embrace the goals her coach set with her and supported her to achieve.
TRIED LOTS OF THINGS
LACK OF SELF BELIEF
LOW ENERGY AND MOOD
I was always quite fit, very active, but at 110kg. I kidded myself I was fit and fat and happy with that.
I remember I saw photos of people at U Fit and must have thought I want to be more like that. I saw someone who’d done a lean out and actually said ‘I never want to look like that’ – but partly it was because I couldn’t imagine that for me, being a size 22 at the time. Over time my goal posts changed as I started to understand what was possible and achievable for me.
I try to incorporate everything – but I don’t get it right all the time, I make mistakes! It’s important to accept you’ll get it wrong, but that doesn’t mean that you’re a failure. I’ve tried so many different things. Otherwise, you don’t know if it works for you.
I’m always questioning my coach Sam, making sure I know why we’re doing what we’re doing, how things work, what they are for. I won’t have someone just tell me to do it, without knowing what’s going on.
I have lost over 40kg and kept the weight off.
It’s not just about how you look, it’s the whole thing: mental, physical, emotional, spiritual. Sleep is so important! It’s more a lifestyle journey – meditation, nutrition, personal development, stress, sleep…
In a way, your whole person changes, and it can be difficult to know how much you’ve changed until it’s reflected back at you. I’ve learnt how much I’ve changed.
“ Going to the gym. Eating what I eat. They’ve all become non-negotiable, as they’ve become a way of life as you change. ”
I’ve learnt I am all or nothing. Once I commit, I commit. And doing something is better than doing nothing. It’s all success.
None of this means every day’s good. I can be tired, not fully recovered, though you learn to not give your all in the gym every day.
I’ve also learnt that consistency is key with workouts and nutrition. Yet it’s very individual. Some foods will bloat some people, they’ll retain water, but for others that food will be fine. And your taste buds change and the foods you go for change and it does become easier I think. Like on holiday, I was able to eat Med style.
“They don’t just look at your exercise, they’re looking at your nutrition, your sleep, your psychological and emotional wellbeing, because all of those make a difference to your health span (your healthy lifespan) and to your lifestyle and your health. It’s just incredible. ”
After years of yo yo dieting, thinking I was eating healthily I finally have the correct balance between food to exercise activity. This place truly is a one stop shop, it caters for your individual needs, supports you and feels like a big family. I would now sacrifice a holiday each year to remain a member here.
I would love to have found somewhere like U Fit when I was in my 20’s, and to have got all of this together in my 20’s. I would have loved to have been part of a gym that focused on all these things, not just fitness.
I’ve cycled London to Paris and to Brussels. In 2023 I’m hoping to do Land’s End to John O’ Groats.
A healthy life to the end of my life, is what I’m striving for.
